VolkSchule

On the 13Th of September I started an intensive language school in down town Kaiserslautern. There are 6 modules over 7 months. You can sign up one at a time, which lasts about a month. It takes a lot of work to juggle the house, laundry, kid stuff, and then my own homework, but I know it will be worth all the work.

We have an interesting group of people from all parts of the world. Turkey, Bulgaria, Nigeria, Iraq, Brazil and Venezuela and I am one of two Americans. On Monday we plan on having a potluck with food from your country. I think I'll make Triple Chocolate Cake.

*Here is a picture of me on my first day of school. I have in my hand a SchuleTute, which in Duetschland is given to a student on the first day of grade school. My neighbors made me this one as a little joke. It was filled with candy and kids book in Duetsch.

Flea Market

There are lots of Flea Markets here in Germany, but there is one in particular that I fell in LOVE with. It only takes place on the first Saturday of each month, but I will try try try to make it there as many times as I can. It is in the town of Homburg, which is 45 minutes from us. A wagon full of kids, snacks tucked away in a cooler and euro in hand we walked from 9 -12 and didn't even get through half!

What did we find that we could not live without?

  • 1 wooden sled
  • 6 Lego men
  • 1 dinosaur
  • German Bible for 1897
  • 4 ice cream cones.

Royal Ranger

On Friday evening from 5-7 Naomi attends the Royal Rangers. It is a church based group of girls that learn about God, Cooking, Camping, and all kinds of other stuff. Naomi gets to hang out with the girls, as well as play games and learn. This summer she went to summer camp with the Rangers. It lasted 5 days and she came home tired and dirty, but had a great time. Here she is in her Rangers Uniform. Isn't she cute!

Raibow Fish

The kindergarten put on a musical from the Rainbow Fish book. The kids sang songs and pretended to swim through the ocean as they acted out the story while the teachers narrated. Silus was a red fish. He wore red pants with a red shirt of Eyans. Each child had a little shield full of "scales" and a crown. I didn't know how he would do on stage if he would get embarrassed or clam up. He did great and smiled from ear to eat almost the whole time.

Batman and Robin

Today Silus and Toben cleaned up the mountain of Lego's and in exchange I got down the overflowing basket of Stuffed Animals and dress up stuff. Dressed in record time. It's a Batman outfit for Silus that is 3 sizes small. Toben it's a Spiderman costume, but he is convinced it's Robin. At least 3 sizes big. Old warn out Halloween costumes. I've patched them and re sewn them, and tried to convince them to at least switch. No, they wont even consider.

They play with the animals and some little puppets. Throw them, dress them, and fight over them. All in a few minutes, but this entertains them for hours. It's fun to watch. There is screaming, laughing, joking and fighting. The house is a disaster. Eyan and Naomi will be home from school not long after, and so let the Wild Rompus begin.
